Pickleball for Polio

World Polio Day is Thursday October 24, 2024. Four area Rotary Clubs (Holmen, Onalaska Hilltoppers, La Crosse Downtown and La Crosse After-hours) have joined forces to host a new public fundraising event called Pickleball for Polio. Rotary international has The event starts at 5 pm.Rotary International has dedicated 35+ years and $2.1 billion to eradicating polio, protecting nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries and reducing cases by 99.9%. Today, polio remains endemic in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Its crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year. The event is being held at the new amazing Blue Zone Pickleball center at 2500 Rose Street, La Crosse, WI 546003. The Blue Zone is in the former Shopko space and has 17 indoor courts. There will be a food truck on site and beverages will be available for purchase inside the Blue Zone. You are invited to part of this fun and help us raise money for Polio Plus, there are three ways to participate: 1) Attend the event and socialize in the Blue Zone Party Room. The Lucky Lobster Rolls Food Truck will be in the parking lot. Beverages will be available for purchase inside the Blue Zone. Kathy Reinholt will provide an update on Rotary’s effort to eliminate polio. There will be basket raffle and other activities. Plus you can watch your friends play pickleball. 2) Play some pickleball for fun. If you have never played the game, the Blue Zone will offer some clinics to go over the rules of the game and show how it is played. There will be some open courts for one hour of open play. You can bring your own racket or borrow one. 3) Register individually and play in our Royalty of the Court Pickleball Tournament. Games will be 7 minutes long. If you win, you move up a court and if you lose you move down a court. The goal is to be in the highest court at the end of the two hours of play. The tournament will run from 6-8 pm.
